West Park Primary School

Client: West Park Primary School | Location: West Park | Specification of Work: Flat Roofing | Project Length: 12 Weeks

The Project

West Park Primary School required a new flat-roof system due to the current system showing general signs of aging and deterioration as it came to the end of its life expectancy. A new flat roof system was requested. The instructed works included the removal of a number of the existing rooflights whilst the remaining number would be replaced with new ones.

Client Problems:

The existing roof system in place at West Park Primary School had been in place for approximately twenty five years. Despite remaining mostly water tight the client expressed a desire for a new roof system to replace the existing one in order to prevent any possible water ingress in the future. Along with the new roof system a total of forty two new rooflights would replace the aged existing ones.

Solution:

Roofclad Systems set up site in accordance with the guidelines set out by the client. This included a scaffold hand rail around the perimeter of the roof along with an access/loading  tower to the rear of the school. A heras fence was erected around a compound area as well as around other necessary areas. The safety of it’s operatives and the public that may be affected by works is paramount to Roofclad Systems when taking on any projects.

The roofs of the school were demarked into ten separate areas. Work commenced on the roofs in a progressive manner, starting with the decommission and removal of the school’s solar panel system. This was done by a specialist sub-contractor who moved and then put back in place approximately one hundred solar panels. This allowed Roofclad Systems access to be able to commence on the areas required.

Roofclad Systems applied an Alumasc Hi-Ten universal underlay torch applied oxidised bitumen membrane. This was followed by a mineral finished torch applied APP modified bitumen cap sheet. Roofclad Systems replaced over forty rooflights in total across the ten roofs of the school working in conjunction with the site staff to ensure minimal disruption to the school day.

The timescale given for the project was eight weeks, Roofclad Systems were able to fully complete all works ahead of schedule in under seven weeks.
