Client: Hill View Academy | Location: Sunderland | Specification of Work: Roof Refurbishment and Maintenance | Project Length: 15 Weeks
Roofclad Systems were asked to strip the gutters and overlay the full roof at Hill View Infant Academy. They were asked to carry out any repairs to existing decking and install a self-adhesive insulation board engineered to achieve an average value of 0.18w/m2k. A Garland torch applied underlay and cap sheet was requested to finish the job.
The roof at Hill View Infant Academy was coming to the end of its life span and required updating. Small areas of water ingress had become evident and required attention. The client wanted a full roof overlay to be installed.
Roofclad Systems set up site in accordance with the guidelines set out by the client. This included a scaffold hand rail around the perimeter of the roof along with an access/loading tower to the rear of the school. A heras fence was erected around a compound area as well as around all other necessary areas.
Roofclad Systems stripped the existing gutters and overlayed approximately 2600m2 of roof area. Where there was damage to the existing roof deck, repairs were carried out. Two coats of Garland Quick Prime bitumous primer were applied before a layer of 4mm SBS modified Metal Torch Flex Base Sheet VCL was fully torch bonded. Bitumen faced PIR insulation board was used to achieve an average of 0.18w/m2k.
A fully torch-bonded 4mm SBS modified Torch Flex Ultra Vent was applied with a minimum of 100mm side laps and 150mm end laps to ensure a water tight seal. This was followed by a layer of 5mm modified StressPly Flex Plus cap sheet, fully torched applied, again, with a minimum of 100mm side laps and 150mm end laps to ensure watertightness. Upon completion, the work was inspected and a 25 year guarantee issued by Garland.
Included in the project a total of 14 rooflights were replaced with Xtralite triple skinned polycarbonate domes with insulated kerbs, finishing 150mm above finished waterproofing level.
