Roofclad Systems delivered a complete roof and cladding refurbishment for Claude Hellowell Ltd, extending the life of seven industrial warehouse units while modernising the appearance of the site and providing long-term protection for its busy logistics operation.
Established in 1924, Claude Hellowell is a respected family-owned logistics company based in Calderdale and a member of The Pallet Network (TPN), providing nationwide haulage and distribution services.
The company’s existing Nissen hut warehouses had served the business for many years, but the ageing curved roofs and gable wall cladding had deteriorated beyond their useful life. The roof sheets had become heavily rusted and rotten, leaving the buildings vulnerable to water ingress and no longer suitable for protecting valuable, powdered materials stored inside.
Roofclad Systems was appointed to deliver a complete refurbishment that would provide a modern, weatherproof building envelope capable of protecting the client’s operations for decades to come.
The complexity of the buildings and the need to keep the site operational required a contractor with the experience to manage both the technical challenges of the curved roof structures and the practical demands of working within a busy logistics environment.
Roofclad Systems Contract Manager Eddie Hownam explained:

Because of the building design, conventional scaffolding and safety netting could not be installed. This required a bespoke access strategy that allowed works to be completed safely while maintaining the programme.
At the same time, the client required a fully weatherproof solution that would protect the powdered products stored within the warehouses and provide long-term reliability with minimal future maintenance.
Roofclad Systems developed a carefully planned refurbishment programme to replace both the roofing and wall cladding systems across all seven industrial units.

The roofing specification utilised 0.7mm thick CR38 curved plastisol-coated galvanised steel roof sheets, supplied by Coverworld UK Ltd and finished in Moorland Green, providing a durable, low-maintenance roofing solution backed by a minimum 25-year manufacturer’s warranty.
The roof sheets were secured with colour-matched EJOT self-drilling fixings, complete with integral sealing washers to prevent water ingress, while all side and end laps were sealed with butyl mastic strips to create a fully weathertight roofing system.
Complementing the new roof, the gable elevations were reclad using Olive Green 0.55mm plastisol-coated galvanised steel sheets supplied by Firth Steels, creating a consistent, modern finish across the entire site.
Health and safety are at the heart of every Roofclad Systems project.
Working closely with Claude Hellowell’s management team, we developed a detailed construction methodology that prioritised the safety of both our operatives and the client’s ongoing operations throughout the ten-week programme.
Due to the curved roof design, traditional scaffolding and safety netting were not suitable. Instead, all works were carried out using scissor lifts and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), allowing the team to access each roof safely while maintaining complete control of the working environment.
Careful planning, continuous supervision and strict safe systems of work ensured the refurbishment was delivered safely and efficiently from start to finish.
The completed refurbishment has transformed seven ageing warehouse buildings into modern industrial units with a durable, weatherproof roofing and cladding system designed for long-term performance.
The new roofing system now provides complete protection against water ingress, safeguarding the powdered materials stored within the warehouses while significantly reducing future maintenance requirements.
The project also delivered a substantial visual transformation, giving the entire site a cleaner, more modern appearance that reflects the quality of Claude Hellowell’s operations.
By combining technical knowledge, detailed planning, in-house fabrication capability and a strong focus on health and safety, Roofclad Systems was able to deliver a complete refurbishment that met both the practical requirements of the site and the client’s expectations for the finished result.
Perhaps the greatest endorsement came immediately after project completion, with the client asking Roofclad Systems to provide quotations for further works.
