Leekes, a long-established UK retailer specialising in home improvement and furnishings, instructed us to carry out a roof refurbishment and wall cladding scheme at their Pontyclun department store. The works included replacing the roof and wall cladding while maintaining store operations throughout the project.

The existing roof included asbestos sheeting and Georgian wire northern lights, both of which posed safety and operational challenges. The client required a solution that improved thermal performance, increased natural daylight, enhanced aesthetics, and allowed the store to remain open during construction.

Our team delivered a comprehensive refurbishment:

• Safely removed and disposed of existing asbestos sheeting, providing full documentation for compliance.
• Installed insulated composite roof panels with a 150mm core, achieving a U-value of 0.13 W/m²K, and 0.4mm plastisol-coated outer weathering sheets.
• Fitted factory-assembled triple skin GRP rooflights (FAIRS / Trilite Ultra 45) to maximise natural daylight.
• Replaced guttering with new metal insulated sections integrated into existing brackets for effective water management.
• Applied wall cladding to the main entrance, including 80mm insulation and 0.7mm profile single-skin metal sheets with side lap detailing for strength and rigidity.
• Carefully removed the Georgian wire northern lights, prioritising safety for staff, customers, and the team.
• Through meticulous planning and execution, the store remained fully operational throughout the works.
