West Boldon Primary School

Client: West Boldon Primary School | Location: West Boldon | Specification of Work: Roof Refurbishment and Maintenance

The Project

Roofclad Systems were contacted by South Tyneside Council in the wake of Storm Arwen. Storm Arwen had displaced half the roof of a detached building at West Boldon Primary School, leaving it unsafe for children to attend and the building vulnerable to further damage and possible water ingress.

Client Problems:

Storm Arwen caused severe damage to one of the schools detached buildings. This building is used daily by the school and it was of high importance that further damage was prevented. After missing so much time off school due to Covid-19 in recent years it was a priority of both the school and Roofclad Systems to ensure that the building was made safe enough for children to use, as well as ensuring that it was made weather proof and water tight.

Solution:

Roofclad Systems attended the site to ensure that the building was made safe by removing any loose roof sheets and any debris that could cause further damage or injury. A heras-fenced perimeter was erected to restrict access and entry to the building.

When returning to site, Roofclad Systems used temporary weather-proofing materials to help protect the building from further damage and to reduce the risk of possible water ingress. The building was made fully water tight by applying a permanent, profiled steel liner tray.

To replace the damaged and missing roof, Roofclad Systems applied 240mmfibreglass insulation and 0.7mm black plastisol N1000R profile Firth Steel sheets. New flashings were applied to the ridge and ridge eaves along with a new trimline gutter. All fabricated works were carried out by Roofclad Systems in house fabrication department.
