Whitecroft Lighting

Whitecroft Lighting, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of sustainable lighting solutions, instructed us to carry out an extensive roof refurbishment at their design and manufacturing facility in Ashton-under-Lyne. The client’s brief required full roofing insulation to meet current building regulations and new outer rooflights to increase the level of natural daylight within the building.

The existing roof system no longer met the thermal performance standards required under current regulations. In addition, the lack of effective natural lighting was impacting the internal environment of the facility. The client needed a solution that would address both issues while ensuring long-term durability and compliance.

To achieve the specified requirements, our team implemented the following:

• Installed a 240mm insulation layer between the existing and new roof sheets, achieving a U-value of 0.18 W/m²K.
• Supplied and fitted new 0.7mm profiled single skin sheets with side lap detail for enhanced strength and rigidity. The sheets were manufactured from hot-dipped galvanised steel with a 0.2mm PVC plastisol outer coating.
• Installed new Class 3 GRP rooflights to increase the amount of natural light within the building.
• Incorporated new 2mm galvanised gutter sections into existing brackets to improve water flow and management.
• The completed project delivered a compliant, energy-efficient roofing system with improved daylight penetration and effective water management, all while enhancing the long-term value of the facility.
